Hello to all. I am writing this evening from Mikey's room. He is sleeping now but had a rough night last night and today was no picnic.
His activity goal for the day was to sit in a chair and the doctors would like him to cough. Sounds pretty easy right? Not so. He is very uncomfortable and sitting up was challenging. He has had three sessions of sitting up each 30 to 45 minutes long and from the look on his face while sitting, 5 minutes would be more than enough for him. The thought of coughing is absurd to him at this point. He has a breathing exercise that he needs to do every hour which he is treating as a test and trying to score higher each time. He has been in alot of pain today. The doctor ordered an anti inflammatory called toradol (spelling) which helped quite a bit but he can not have it very often but the morphine helps. Speaking of the wonder drug he was just given some more so that will help. He is still in good spirits and has been joking with the nurses which is nice. Today should be the worst.
Vivian has been wondering where daddy is. Grammie taught her to say "Daddy at hospital. ALl better." We are probably not going to bring her in to see him. There are so many cords and buttons that she will want to play with and that would not be good.
We appreciate all of your positive thoughts, notes and messages.
GCB

From Jonah to Janise each one of you in that temporary Indiana community have the greatest spirits for handling what comes your way. The image of Mike making jokes in spite of his pain is not surprising. And, Gilda, you are just a pillar of unfathomable strength there updating the blog. I can't even think of an inappropriate comment for you. Bless you guys!
Love, Marianna
Hi Guys-- I could not wait to come home from work to check out the blog to see how it's going there today. I hope tomorrow will be a better/ more comfortable day for Mike. It is so hot here--of course I was in airconditioning all day so it feels even worse. --John bought the convertable saab from this friend -- its a 1999 with 100+ miles -- but much better on gas than the truck. xoxoxocarla

To Mike and family,
We bumped into the Baker family on the island last night at the ice cream store. Where else? Annie opened up the blog so we could find out how the surgery went. Glad that's in the past.
Please know that there's lots of Peaks Islanders praying and pulling for you. (Those doing the pulling need to get in touch with their spiritual side..)Hang in there Mike. There's more ahead with that gorgeous family of yours. Do it for yourself, do it for them. Let their love envelop you and heal you. Thinking of you, Ralph and Jeannie Ashmore
